Agbambilla Ziyerley Maxwell, the lawyer for the Bawku Naaba, has reported that at least 15 people have recently lost their lives due to the escalating conflict in Bawku.
On Sunday, October 27, 2024, a new attack occurred as assailants set up roadblocks in Gbimsi and Walewale Town, halting vehicles to identify potential targets. This gruesome incident resulted in the deaths of at least eight individuals.
In an interview with Benjamin Akakpo on Joy News’ AM Show on Monday, October 28, 2024, Agbambilla stated, “To my knowledge, we have currently lost a minimum of 15 people in Bawku, and some are being slaughtered in Walewale.”
He also criticized the Attorney-General for failing to act promptly in the case of Alhaji Seidu Abagre, a rival chief who returned to Bawku after a Kumasi High Court quashed his arrest warrant on October 17, 2024. Agbambilla noted, “We were informed that the Attorney-General didn’t even file a response, leaving the Court with no choice but to revoke the arrest warrant.”
He emphasized that the Attorney-General could have issued a new arrest warrant but chose not to, holding them responsible for Alhaji Seidu’s return. Agbambilla expressed the Bawku Naaba’s dissatisfaction with this development, highlighting the rising tensions in the region.
