Manchester United has parted ways with manager Erik ten Hag after two and a half years in charge of the club. His dismissal follows a disappointing start to the 2024/25 season, which has left the team in 14th place on the Premier League table after nine matches.
Ten Hag’s last game as manager was a 2-1 defeat against West Ham United at the London Stadium on Sunday, October 27.
A club statement announced, “Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager.” It continued, “Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well in the future.”
In the interim, Ruud van Nistelrooy will take over as head coach, supported by the current coaching staff, while the club seeks a permanent replacement. The decision to terminate Ten Hag’s contract was communicated to him by the club’s board on Monday morning, less than 24 hours after the loss to West Ham.
