WAEC Announces Resit Opportunities for Students in January and February 2025

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has launched a groundbreaking initiative allowing students to resit their WASSCE papers as early as January and February 2025.

This move is a departure from the traditional system, which required candidates to wait for the next private exam cycle, offering students a quicker path to improve their grades.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on Tuesday, December 31, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, introduced the new programme called WASSCE PC1. He emphasized that this initiative provides an efficient opportunity for students to rectify their results.

“Students who access their results now and realize they need to resit one or two papers have until January 8 to register online through our website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés,” Mr. Kapi said. “The exams will be held from January 24 to February 15, 2025.”

To support candidates in their preparations, WAEC plans to release chief examiners’ reports earlier than usual. These reports will offer detailed insights into common mistakes and strategies for improving performance.

“We’ve taken steps to ensure widespread awareness of this programme through banners, our website, and the results checker platform,” Mr. Kapi noted, encouraging both students and parents to take advantage of the opportunity.

Students whose results have been cancelled are also eligible to participate, provided they have not been barred for malpractice.

For now, the exams will be conducted in regional capitals due to the limited number of candidates. Prospective participants must complete their registration by January 8 to secure a spot.

WAEC expressed optimism that this initiative will help students quickly enhance their grades and meet requirements for the next admissions cycle, avoiding delays in their academic journey.
