UK to Implement E-Visas Starting January 2025 – Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Ministry Issues Advisory

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has issued an advisory regarding updates to the United Kingdom’s visa and immigration procedures, as communicated by the British High Commission.

Starting January 1, 2025, the UK will transition to Electronic Visas (E-Visas), replacing all existing physical visa documents. According to the advisory, signed by Acting Director of the Information and Public Affairs Bureau, Victor N. A. Adamah, this shift will render physical documents—such as passport-stamped visas, Biometric Residence Permits (BRP), and Biometric Residence Cards (BRC)—invalid after December 31, 2024.

The Ministry advises that those planning to reside in the UK for more than six months from January onward should apply for E-Visas. This requirement also applies to current BRP holders with valid permissions to live, work, or study in the UK, as all BRP cards will expire by the end of this year.

Individuals intending to travel outside the UK over the holiday season are strongly encouraged to secure their E-Visa before December 31, 2024, to ensure smooth re-entry into the UK in the new year.

The Ministry urges all impacted individuals to follow these new regulations promptly and recommends consulting the British High Commission’s official website or contacting UK immigration authorities for guidance on E-Visa applications.
