Ghana’s Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has announced plans to launch an innovative “edutourism” initiative aimed at attracting international students and educators to the country. The new programme will combine academic opportunities with cultural experiences, positioning Ghana as a prime destination for both learning and exploration.
The edutourism initiative will allow international students to engage in educational programmes in Ghana while also immersing themselves in the country’s rich cultural heritage and history. By blending academic pursuits with cultural tourism, the programme seeks to enhance Ghana’s appeal as a global hub for education and cultural exchange.
Dr. Adutwum, speaking on behalf of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia at an event in Accra on Sunday, explained that the initiative would create unique opportunities for students worldwide to not only gain academic knowledge but also experience Ghanaian traditions, customs, and historical landmarks.
The Minister highlighted that the edutourism programme reflects the government’s commitment to positioning Ghana as a leader in educational excellence and cultural enrichment. He expressed hope that the initiative would strengthen international educational partnerships, promote tourism, and showcase Ghana’s diverse heritage on a global stage.
“We aim to make Ghana a premier destination for educational tourism,” Dr. Adutwum stated. “This initiative will elevate our educational offerings, foster cultural exchange, and contribute to economic growth.”
