“EC Announces Readiness for 2024 Elections, Election Materials Deployed”

The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed its readiness to conduct free, fair, and transparent elections on December 7, 2024.

In a press conference held in Accra on Thursday evening, EC Chairperson Mrs. Jean Mensa announced that all necessary election materials and equipment have been successfully distributed to the regions. These materials include ballot papers, biometric verification devices, ballot boxes, thumbprint pads, stamp pads, computers, and projectors.

Mrs. Mensa reassured the public that the Commission had ensured adequate quantities of election materials for all areas, with no shortages anticipated. She also stated that nearly 210,000 temporary election officers had been trained and deployed to manage the elections at over 40,000 polling stations across the country.

She emphasized the importance of fairness and transparency, urging election officers to accurately count votes and complete forms professionally to reflect the will of the people.

Encouraging first-time voters and the youth to participate actively in the election, Mrs. Mensa urged them to reject violence and resist being used as tools for unrest.

The 2024 election will be the 9th since Ghana’s Fourth Republic began in 1993, with a total of 18,774,159 registered voters expected to cast ballots for both the president and 276 Members of Parliament.

Ahead of the main election day, two special voting exercises were held on December 2 and December 5, 2024, for individuals engaged in election-related duties, with a turnout rate of 83% or higher at each polling station.

The EC is anticipating a high voter turnout on December 7 and encouraged all eligible voters to go out and exercise their right to vote.
