Bawumia at NPP Final Rally: “Let Me Transform Ghana”

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has appealed to Ghanaians to entrust him with the leadership of the nation to transform Ghana and build upon the foundation laid by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Speaking at the NPP’s final campaign event, the Possibilities Victory Rally, held at the University of Ghana Sports Directorate Park on Thursday, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the need for innovative leadership to propel the country into the Fourth Industrial Revolution. He urged voters in Saturday’s polls to support a candidate with integrity and visionary ideas to secure and advance the nation’s achievements.

“My government will unleash the private sector’s potential to drive economic transformation. I will work tirelessly to protect our natural resources, enhance the Free SHS policy, sustain teacher and nursing trainee allowances, and prioritize the welfare of the needy and Zongo communities,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

Highlighting Achievements

Dr. Bawumia spotlighted key policies implemented under the NPP government, including the medical drone delivery system, mobile money interoperability, digital property addressing, the Ghana Card, paperless ports, and initiatives like free dialysis and childhood cancer treatments under the NHIS.

He touted significant infrastructure achievements, noting that the Akufo-Addo government had built more roads, interchanges, and railway lines than previous administrations. The government also invested GHS 6 billion in Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) and strengthened food security through the Planting for Food and Jobs policy, ranking Ghana third in Africa for food security.

A Vision for the Future

Outlining his plans if elected, Dr. Bawumia pledged to transition Ghana’s energy production from crude oil to solar power and expand electric vehicle usage in public transport, reducing costs by 50%. He also proposed a flat tax rate, tax amnesty by 2025, and allocating 3% of government expenditure—equivalent to GHS 30 billion annually—to the private sector to foster development in housing and other critical areas.

“So, on what basis does former President Mahama want to return? Even with the macroeconomic challenges, our record surpasses that of the NDC,” Dr. Bawumia remarked, adding, “When I called for a debate with John Mahama, he declined. I speak with facts and data.”

Calls for Unity and Religious Harmony

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, addressing the crowd, endorsed Dr. Bawumia as the best candidate for the 2024 elections, highlighting his experience and preparation over the past eight years.

The President condemned recent remarks allegedly made by a clergyman discouraging votes for Dr. Bawumia based on his faith.

“No pastor should incite division among Ghanaians. Christians and Muslims have coexisted peacefully, and we must not allow anyone to divide us along religious lines,” President Akufo-Addo asserted.

Massive Support

The rally concluded the NPP’s nationwide campaign tour. A massive crowd of enthusiastic supporters filled the event grounds, waving party flags, blowing vuvuzelas, and dancing to NPP songs.

Prominent figures, including former President John Agyekum Kufuor, current and former party executives, ministers, MPs, and parliamentary candidates, attended the event to show solidarity and support for Dr. Bawumia.

Dr. Bawumia expressed optimism about an NPP victory in both the presidential and parliamentary elections, urging Ghanaians to place their confidence in the party to secure the nation’s future.
