Traditional rulers of the Anlo Kingdom in the Volta Region have petitioned the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, to help identify the Member of Parliament (MP) who verbally attacked Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, the MP for Klottey-Korle.
In a petition addressed to the Speaker and two MPs who were initially suspected but later denied involvement, the chiefs gave a February 10 deadline for the Speaker to identify the perpetrator. This identification, they emphasized, will guide them in determining their next steps.
The incident occurred during parliamentary proceedings on Tuesday, February 4, when a male voice was heard shouting, “Daughter of a murderer, sit down! Daughter of a murderer, sit down!”
The outburst happened while the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, was addressing the House and calling for calm during heated discussions about the 60th anniversary of the death of Joseph Boakye Danquah.
Zanetor Rawlings is the eldest daughter of the late Jerry John Rawlings, Ghana’s former military leader who transitioned to a civilian president in the early 1990s.
The Anlo Chiefs have expressed concern over the derogatory comment, describing it as an insult not just to Zanetor but also to the memory of her late father. They believe identifying the culprit is crucial for ensuring accountability and decorum in Parliament.
