The Kwahu Traditional Council has removed Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II as Kwahumanhene, citing allegations of misconduct during his tenure.
The decision follows accusations of financial impropriety, including claims of extortion from a customer while serving as Chairman of the Agricultural Development Bank’s board. These allegations eventually led to his resignation from the board.
Confirming the destoolment in an interview with Citi FM, the Kwahumanhemaa, Nana Adwoa Gyamfuah II, stated that the former chief’s actions had tarnished the reputation of the Kwahu Traditional Council.
“We have destooled Eugene Kwasi Boadi Asante, known as Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II. The traditional council frowns upon chiefs who fail to rule with integrity. His actions have caused significant reputational damage to Kwahuman, and he can no longer serve as Kwahumanhene,” Nana Adwoa Gyamfuah II declared.
Process of Enstooling a New Kwahumanhene
The Kwahumanhemaa outlined the next steps in selecting a new chief, emphasizing adherence to Akan tradition.
“In Akan culture, the queen mother enstools a new chief in consultation with the Kingmakers when the position becomes vacant. The same process applies when a queen mother passes on, with the chief and Kingmakers enstooling her replacement,” she explained.
The council is currently preparing to enstool a new Kwahumanhene to ensure continuity in leadership.
Interim Leadership
In the interim, Nana Asiedu Agyemang III, the Abetifihene, has been appointed acting president of the Kwahu Traditional Council.
“The traditional council convened on Wednesday, November 13, with all 20 chiefs and queen mothers present to form a quorum. The decision to destool Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II was unanimous. Rites were also performed to seek the blessings of the gods as we prepare to enstool a new chief who will serve Kwahuman with dignity and dedication,” Nana Adwoa Gyamfuah II revealed.
The destoolment marks a significant chapter in the Kwahu Traditional Council’s history, as it seeks to restore trust and uphold its cultural values through decisive leadership.
