Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has called on Ghanaians to actively participate in the upcoming elections, cautioning against voter apathy and its potential consequences.
In an interaction with selected journalists, Mr. Kufuor highlighted the critical role of each vote in shaping the country’s future. He emphasized that abstaining from voting could allow others to make decisions that might not align with the abstainers’ vision for Ghana.
The former President urged citizens not to let internal party disagreements or dissatisfaction discourage them from fulfilling their democratic duty. He stressed that democracy flourishes when citizens actively engage in the electoral process, and their collective choices determine the nation’s direction.
“When it’s time for elections, and because of some party rift, people decide not to vote, it’s a challenge,” Mr. Kufuor remarked. “If you don’t vote, others will, and they may not vote to support your party’s vision.”
He appealed to all eligible voters to take their responsibility seriously, noting that voter apathy could undermine the country’s progress. “As much as possible, we should not adopt an attitude of voter apathy,” he concluded, urging Ghanaians to play their part in building a stronger democracy.
