A man identified as Sena Gomado, believed to be in his early 40s, was found dead in Agbozume, located in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region. His lifeless body was discovered in the early hours of Friday, October 25, beneath a mango tree behind his home in the Agortorme-Vekorfe suburb of Agbozume.
Doe Asinyo, the local Assembly member, revealed that Gomado was a father of two who had been living alone following a divorce from his wife about 15 years ago. Asinyo noted that Gomado appeared to be in good health and showed no signs of depression or frustration that could have led to suicide.
Mr. Kwaku Mahogany Kemavor, a Unit Committee member in the Srohume Electoral Area, expressed the community’s shock, stating that such incidents are rare in the area. He described Gomado, a local kente weaver, as a calm and reserved person with no known conflicts or issues leading up to his death.
“His father is from Togo, and he was living here with his mother. Sena was a quiet person, so we’re all struggling to understand what led to this,” Kemavor told the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
Another resident, Mr. Godwin Avevor, mentioned that Gomado had displayed unusual behavior in recent days, appearing withdrawn and avoiding social interactions, which was not typical for him. Avevor also recalled a previous incident in which Gomado attempted to take his own life, but that attempt was unsuccessful.
“He didn’t seem interested in being around others and had become even more withdrawn recently. We noticed some unusual behavior from him, but we’re still in shock and uncertain about what might have been troubling him,” Avevor shared.
The Agbozume police have responded to the incident, transporting Gomado’s body to the Hossana Morgue for further examination. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement or provide additional details regarding the circumstances of the incident.
The loss has deeply affected the community, prompting calls for increased mental health support and awareness in the area.
