“My Heart Bleeds” – Kurt Okraku Laments Black Stars’ AFCON 2025 Miss

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has shared his deep disappointment following the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Okraku reflected on the team’s decline from recent achievements to the current low, describing the situation as a painful moment for Ghanaian football.

“From the highest heights of world football on the 29th of March 2022 to the lowest ebb of AFCON qualifying matches. My heart bleeds,” he wrote, contrasting the pride of Ghana’s qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup with the anguish of missing out on AFCON 2025.

Acknowledging Collective Disappointment

Okraku recognized the frustration shared by fans, players, and stakeholders, admitting that the team’s performance has fallen short of expectations.

“This is not what we wanted or what we bargained for,” he acknowledged. “At this point, only cool heads can prevail. As leaders of our sport, we will remain united, honest with ourselves, and committed to fixing this problem.”

Optimism Amid Challenges

Despite the setback, Okraku expressed hope for recovery, albeit acknowledging the difficulties ahead.

“The road to full recovery after normalisation is bumpy and rough, but with collective efforts and patience, we will prevail,” he assured. “Ghana, our beloved country, will rise again.”

As both a leader and a passionate fan, Okraku emphasized that he shares in the collective pain of the nation.

“As a Black Stars fan and as the leader, I share in your pain and our pain,” he wrote, pledging his commitment to rebuilding the team.

A Call for Resilience

Okraku ended his post on a hopeful note, urging Ghanaians to remain steadfast in their support for the team during this challenging period.

“We will rise from this temporary setback. It shall be well,” he concluded.

The Black Stars’ failure to qualify for AFCON 2025 represents a historic low for Ghanaian football, leading to widespread criticism of the team and GFA leadership. However, Okraku’s message of unity and determination sets a tone of resilience as Ghana works to rebuild its football legacy.
