Nkroful Chief Urges Political Party Leaders to Cease Galamsey Activities

Nana Kwasi Kutuah V, the Chief of Nkroful in Ghana’s Ellembelle District, has called out political party leaders allegedly involved in illegal mining, or galamsey, near Nkroful Agricultural Senior High School. He highlighted CIC Impex Mining Limited, which was initially tasked with desilting the Subre River, but instead has reportedly contributed to environmental degradation. Nana Kutuah urged the national government and security forces to take immediate action, urging leaders to halt these activities and protect the area’s land and water sources. The Nkroful Divisional Council expressed its commitment to fighting galamsey, vowing to safeguard local lands.

The Ellembelle District Assembly previously assigned CIC Impex as a contractor for desilting and reclaiming river areas; however, Nana Kutuah condemned the assembly for failing to prevent illegal mining damage. He also called for adequate funding to reclaim and protect local rivers, emphasizing the role of both security agencies and traditional authorities in halting illegal mining.
