Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey was notably absent from Ghana’s squad announcement for the upcoming AFCON 2025 qualifiers against Angola and Niger, as coach Otto Addo unveiled the list on Thursday.
This marks the fourth of the six qualifying matches Partey will miss, having also been absent for Ghana’s double-header against Sudan last month.
During the press conference, Coach Otto Addo addressed Partey’s absence, stating that the decision was made after a private conversation with the player.
“I had a confidential talk with Thomas. As you know, I’m a coach who prioritizes protecting my players, so I ask for your understanding. For me, the team is like family, and I won’t discuss internal matters publicly,” Addo explained.
The coach further clarified that while Partey initially expressed willingness to join the squad, he ultimately agreed with the decision not to call him up.
“Initially, Thomas wanted to come, but I made it clear why he wouldn’t be part of this camp. It’s confidential, and it’s not easy for me to disclose all the details. We move forward,” Addo concluded.
In Partey’s absence, Jordan Ayew will captain the Black Stars. Ghana will face Angola on November 15 in Luanda, followed by a home match against Niger on November 18 in Accra.
Currently, Ghana sits third in Group F, with just two points from four matches.
