The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has announced plans to establish an agro-processing factory in the Guan District of the Oti Region, should he win the December elections.
Speaking during his ongoing regional tour, Mahama emphasized that the district, known for its agricultural potential, deserves such an initiative to boost its economy. “We are going to create an agro-industrial zone. We will work with the private sector, supported by government, to set up a factory that will process the ginger produced here and supply it to the market,” Mahama pledged.
Additionally, Mahama promised another factory to process cereals, such as rice, which is also grown in the district. “We will establish a factory to buy and process all the rice produced in this district,” he said.
Addressing the issue of the district’s absence in Parliament, Mahama urged the people of Guan to reject the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming elections as a show of discontent with their treatment over the past four years. “SALL, you need to show the NPP government that you are dissatisfied with how they have treated you. No one in the Guan district should vote for the NPP,” he said, calling for a 100% vote for the NDC in the district.
Mahama also reiterated his commitment to prioritizing infrastructure development in the region, with a focus on health, education, roads, and sports, as part of his vision for the future of Oti.
