President John Dramani Mahama has nominated ten individuals to serve as regional ministers, pending approval by Parliament. This move is part of his administration’s strategy to enhance governance and ensure effective regional administration.
The nominees are:
- Adolf John – Northern Region
- John Kwadwo Gyapong – Oti Region
- James Gunu – Volta Region
- Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjel Awatey – Eastern Region
- Ibrahim Tia – North-East Region
- Dr. Frank Amoakohene – Ashanti Region
- Akamugri Donatus Atanga – Upper East Region
- Charity Gardiner – Ahafo Region
- Salisu Bi-Awuribe – Savannah Region
- Linda Ocloo – Greater Accra Region
Six regions—Bono, Bono East, Central, Western, Western North, and Upper West—remain without nominations at this stage. A communication has been sent to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, requesting the vetting and confirmation of the nominees.
In addition to these nominations, President Mahama is expected to announce key security appointments by the end of the week to address ongoing conflicts in Bawku and nearby areas.
During a visit to the Bawku Naba Palace, President Mahama reassured the chiefs and people of the Kusaug Traditional Area of his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in the conflict-ridden region.
“Within this week, we will appoint the Minister for Defence, the Minister for Interior, the National Security Coordinator, the National Security Advisor, and the Director of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI). Once these appointments are made, I will charge them to prioritize resolving the Bawku conflict,” the President stated.
These appointments, coupled with the regional minister nominations, signify President Mahama’s dedication to addressing pressing national issues and fostering unity across Ghana.
