EC to Reprint Ballot Papers for Ahafo and Volta Regions Due to Serial Number Errors

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced plans to reprint all ballot papers for the Volta and Ahafo regions due to errors in serial numbers.

This decision was disclosed by Samuel Tettey, EC’s Deputy Chairman of Operations, during an emergency IPAC meeting on Friday, November 15.

Tettey revealed that while the ballot paper printing process has largely gone smoothly, issues with the serialisation of the papers for the Ahafo and Volta regions necessitated urgent action.

“The challenge faced by the Commission has been with the serialisation of the numbers on the ballot papers,” he stated.

To address the issue, the EC has deployed teams to the printing house to rectify the anomalies. However, residual gaps have prompted the decision to reprint the ballots entirely for these regions.

The reprinting of both presidential and parliamentary ballot papers will be handled by Buck Press and Acts Commercials. The EC has also committed to providing a detailed printing timetable to stakeholders by the end of the day.

In addition, Mr. Tettey outlined plans for disposing of the defective ballot papers. The process will involve all stakeholders, with a certificate of destruction signed by all parties and copies shared for transparency.

The EC clarified that the faulty ballots had not yet been distributed, making a recall unnecessary. This correction addressed earlier reports suggesting the ballots were being retrieved.
