EC Maintains Ballot Positions Despite Disqualification of GFP Flagbearer

The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed that the original ballot order for the 2024 presidential election will stay as planned, despite the recent disqualification of Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) candidate Philip Appiah Kubi.

In an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Tuesday, November 12, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa explained that the Commission’s decision aligns with their commitment to maintaining an orderly electoral process. Ms. Mensa emphasized that the GFP candidate’s disqualification will not lead to changes in the ballot sequence, so no adjustments will be made.

Ms. Mensa also noted that Akua Donkor’s name and image will still appear on the ballot. She explained that this consistency is crucial to avoid any delays as the election date draws closer.

Addressing party representatives, she revealed that 90 percent of the presidential ballots have already been printed, underscoring the EC’s focus on meeting critical timelines for the upcoming election.

“This morning, we are here to inform you of the Commission’s decision to maintain the presidential ballot as it is. As you may be aware, since you have representatives in the printing houses, we are almost 90 percent complete with the printing of presidential ballots,” she stated.
