I’m Still Feeling the Impact of Sarkodie’s ‘Happy Day’ Feature – Kuami Eugene

Ghanaian highlife artist Kuami Eugene has revealed that he continues to face criticism for his collaboration on Sarkodie’s track “Happy Day,” released four years ago. In an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM, Kuami expressed that the song has led to backlash from certain music fans.

“I am still suffering for that feature. I don’t know what conversation led to the decision that it should be me on the track. After I recorded the chorus and the first verse with Sarkodie, it ended up being perceived in a way I didn’t intend. Now I find myself having to clarify that I’m not associated with it as an NPP song,” he explained.

He further stated that he is still bombarded with negative comments regarding the collaboration. “People ask me all the time, ‘Did you sleep at UGMC? Don’t you know Mahama built it?’” he added.

Released just before the 2020 general elections, “Happy Day” sparked controversy, particularly due to a line in which Sarkodie praises Nana Akufo-Addo’s Free Senior High School initiative and supports his re-election campaign. The political undertones of the song led to criticism of both Sarkodie and, by extension, Kuami Eugene, from those who viewed it as an endorsement of the NPP party.
