The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the start of ballot paper distribution for the December 7 general elections, beginning today, November 14.
In a press release signed by Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman of Operations, the EC stated that ballot papers will be transported to all 16 regions under strict security measures. “The transportation of ballot papers to the various regions will start tomorrow, Thursday, November 14, 2024,” the statement read, expressing well wishes from the EC.
The distribution process, which will run from Thursday, November 14 to Tuesday, November 19, begins in the Greater Accra region and concludes in the Volta and Oti regions. This effort comes after a month of final preparations by the EC, including voter registration finalization, polling station assignments, and training for election officers.
Additionally, the EC announced the completion of a “robust and credible” certified final voters register. On November 6, the EC provided political parties with digital copies of this final register, fulfilling their commitment to release it in early November.
Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the EC, highlighted the importance of accuracy and transparency in the electoral process, stating, “We now have a robust and credible certified final voters register, which is fit to deliver a credible, transparent, fair, peaceful, and glorious election come December 7, 2024.” She credited the timely completion of the voter register to “the help of God” and expressed appreciation for the successful milestone.
