NSMQ24: TAMASCO Makes Remarkable Comeback, Defeats St. John’s School and Accra Academy to Reach Semi-Finals

The excitement of the 2024 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) reached a thrilling climax on Wednesday, October 23, as Tamale Senior High School (TAMASCO), Accra Academy, and St. John’s School faced off in a captivating quarter-final matchup that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.

This contest was more than just a quiz; it was an intense clash of intellect, strategy, and determination, with each team vying for a coveted place in the semi-finals.

All three schools had previously triumphed in the one-eighth stage, setting the stage for a highly anticipated showdown. From the beginning, Tamale SHS demonstrated their intent, quickly surging to an early lead with 19 points. St. John’s School closely followed with 17 points, while Accra Academy remained in contention with 14 points. It was evident that this would be a fierce battle, with no team willing to back down.

As the rounds progressed, the competition intensified. TAMASCO built on their initial momentum, extending their lead to 25 points, while St. John’s and Accra Academy trailed with 19 and 18 points, respectively. TAMASCO supporters were filled with enthusiasm, while tension began to mount among fans of the other schools. Just when it seemed TAMASCO was on track for a smooth victory, St. John’s School delivered a remarkable performance in the third and fourth rounds, showcasing exceptional teamwork and knowledge. They surged ahead to claim 38 points, taking the lead and positioning themselves as frontrunners.

TAMASCO, now at 34 points, faced a challenge, while Accra Academy remained in third with 32 points. The atmosphere in the room was electric as the final round approached, promising the kind of drama that only the NSMQ can deliver. In an astonishing twist, TAMASCO rallied back with impressive knowledge and composure, ultimately finishing with 40 points to claim victory.

Despite their earlier brilliance, St. John’s School could not add to their score and finished with 38 points. Accra Academy, unable to catch up, ended the contest with 32 points.

The TAMASCO supporters erupted in celebration, marking a hard-fought victory that secured their place in the semi-finals. The 2024 National Science and Maths Quiz is produced by Primetime Limited and sponsored by the Ghana Education Service in partnership with GOIL PLC, with additional support from Pepsodent, Jupay, and Prudential Life Insurance Ghana.
