This directive came after a mediation session involving the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and the PSWU, alongside representatives from the Ministry of Employment, Labour Relations, and Pensions (MELRP) and the Ministry of Finance, aiming to resolve the dispute. The PSWU had initially announced the strike on October 14, citing the government’s delay in approving two institution-specific allowances for its members.

PSWU General Secretary Bernard Adjei explained to JoyNews that the union agreed to suspend the strike in compliance with the NLC’s instructions, which required the strike to end before further negotiations could proceed. Adjei confirmed that union members are expected to resume work on Monday, October 28, as talks with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission are set to continue next week.

“It’s just a matter of communication, but yes, people will fully report to the office on Monday. We’ve suspended the strike as part of the Labour Commission’s directives. If we don’t suspend it, how would Fair Wages meet us for negotiations?” Adjei said.

He also urged institutions to recognize that decisions carry consequences, highlighting the importance of protecting PSWU members’ rights and well-being.

“Institutions should know that there are consequences for every action and decision we take. I can tell you that there are management who also want to punish our people, and we will not do anything to put our members in harm’s way,” he added.
