A newborn baby, believed to have been abandoned shortly after birth, was rescued from a manhole in Tema Community One, Site 12, on Wednesday around 7:00 PM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The baby is currently receiving medical care at the Tema General Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charles Amos, the Assemblyman for the Padmore Electoral Area, reported that he received calls from residents about the abandoned infant. He noted that by the time he arrived, the residents had already retrieved the baby from the manhole. When found, the umbilical cord and placenta were still attached, indicating the baby was likely abandoned right after delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the infant was in poor health, it was alive and was promptly taken to the Tema Community One Police Station, where a formal complaint was filed. The baby was then transported to the hospital for medical attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amos emphasized the need for increased awareness regarding safe methods for surrendering unwanted children to Social Welfare and other organizations, pointing out that abandoning a baby is a criminal offense under the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
