forikrom MP Dr. Emmanuel Marfo has criticized the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for failing to align its actions with the campaign message and policies of its presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the elections.

Dr. Marfo stated that the contradictions between the government’s policies and Dr. Bawumia’s promises weakened the party’s efforts and caused confusion among the electorate. He highlighted several key issues, including Dr. Bawumia’s strong stance during the campaign that LGBTQ+ would not have a place in his administration. The MP pointed out that despite this, President Akufo-Addo did not take action to sign the law when he had the opportunity, leading to the perception that the President and Vice President were not in agreement.

The Oforikrom MP also addressed the controversial E-Levy, which Dr. Bawumia had promised to cancel if elected. He noted that while Dr. Bawumia championed digitalization, the E-Levy became a burden for many people, especially after it was signed into law by the President.

Dr. Marfo further explained that these contradictions between words and actions undermined the party’s campaign. He quoted the saying, “What you are doing is so loud, I cannot hear what you are saying,” to emphasize how the government’s actions overshadowed Dr. Bawumia’s promises.

He questioned the credibility of Dr. Bawumia’s policies, asking, “If the government, which has the power now, cannot implement what Dr. Bawumia is preaching, why should the electorate believe that he can do it when he assumes office?”

Dr. Marfo also expressed disappointment with President Akufo-Addo, who often claims to be Dr. Bawumia’s number-one supporter. He argued that if the President truly supported Dr. Bawumia, he should have taken policy steps to back him, and if the President didn’t believe in Bawumia’s message, why should the electorate?

The MP concluded that these inconsistencies ultimately harmed the NPP’s chances of winning the election and breaking the much-discussed “8.”
