Special voting for the Western and Eastern Regions is underway today, December 5, following a rescheduling from the initial date of December 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Electoral Commission (EC) postponed the exercise after discovering a leakage of ballot papers in both regions. In response, the EC swiftly recalled and reprinted the affected ballots to preserve the election’s integrity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
EC Chairperson Jean Mensa announced the decision during an emergency press conference on December 1, emphasizing the importance of ensuring a credible voting process ahead of the 2024 General Election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This year, 328 special voting centres have been set up nationwide to accommodate 131,478 voters on the special voting list. These voters include security personnel, media representatives, and election officials who need to cast their ballots early to perform their duties on election day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On December 4, Dr. Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairperson of the EC, confirmed that all necessary preparations had been finalized for today’s voting in the Western and Eastern Regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Electoral Commission is fully prepared for the special voting exercise. All essential materials have been dispatched to the Western and Eastern Regions, and we expect all registered special voters to participate, regardless of their current location,\u201d Dr. Asare stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He outlined that 33 voting centres are operational in the Eastern Region and 17 in the Western Region. Dr. Asare encouraged all registered voters in these areas to take part in the process, emphasizing that those who miss today\u2019s exercise will not have another chance to vote before the general election on December 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
