Former Attorney General and Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu has taken a strong stance against President Nana Akufo-Addo, accusing him of using state resources to influence the upcoming December 2024 elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a recent opinion piece, Amidu criticized the president\u2019s sudden surge in infrastructure commissioning, describing it as a strategic abuse of incumbency designed to obscure the government\u2019s economic and social shortcomings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is so fearful of a free and fair democratic contest that he deliberately postponed most infrastructure developments to be unveiled by his chosen successor and himself within the final three months leading to the December 7, 2024 elections,” Amidu asserted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The former Special Prosecutor condemned this approach as \u201ca condescending insult to the electorate\u201d and accused the government of using these projects as a cover to misappropriate public funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Amidu drew parallels between the current administration\u2019s tactics and those of previous governments, emphasizing how voters have historically rejected such maneuvers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe electorate has always been aware of attempts by incumbent governments to delay project commissionings in an effort to distract from their mismanagement, abuse of power, and corruption,\u201d he stated, referencing the elections of 2000, 2008, and 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Amidu, the flurry of commissionings is nothing more than election propaganda aimed at masking the government\u2019s failures. He expressed disdain for the administration\u2019s belief that voters can be swayed by \u201ca few television pictures.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe corrupt and looting machinery of Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is so intoxicated with power that they perceive the ordinary Ghanaian as a zombified idiot whose vote can be bought,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Amidu urged Ghanaians to see through these tactics, describing them as a desperate attempt to cling to power. He called on voters to reflect on the hardships endured over the past seven years and reject the continuation of what he termed the \u201ccreate, loot, and share\u201d governance model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
