Dr. Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairman in charge of Corporate Services, emphasized the Commission’s commitment to accuracy, transparency, and adherence to this timeline during an interview on Joy News’ PM Express.

“By convention, we work within 72 hours, and we will do our best to ensure Ghanaians know the outcome of the presidential election within this period,” Dr. Asare assured.

He explained that while the EC aims to work efficiently, every step of the process must undergo thorough checks to maintain credibility.

Multi-Step Results Process

Dr. Asare outlined the detailed process of collating results from constituencies across the nation:

Parliamentary election results from some constituencies may conclude as early as midnight or the early hours of the morning.

Presidential results are then forwarded to regional capitals, where officials review them.

These verified results are sent to the EC headquarters in Accra for the Chairperson to officially declare the outcome.

“The parties will be represented at all levels to ensure transparency and credibility throughout the process,” he noted.

2020 Lessons Shape Current Plan

Reflecting on the 2020 elections, Dr. Asare acknowledged that while the EC aimed to announce results within 24 hours, logistical challenges extended the timeline to 48 hours.
